| Not too far from where I live, there’s a spot I always remember fondly: Mill Pond Park in Richmond Hill. Every time I think of it, the image that comes to mind is calm water, willow trees swaying, and families strolling along the winding paths. It’s one of those places that seems to slow time down, giving you a breather from the rush of daily life. |
| ### Location & How to Get There Mill Pond Park is tucked away in the heart of Richmond Hill, just west of Yonge Street and north of Major Mackenzie Drive. For locals, it’s an easy drive, and there’s parking nearby. If you don’t drive, you can also get there by bus—several YRT/Viva routes along Yonge drop you within walking distance. For those who prefer biking, it’s connected to trails that weave through Richmond Hill’s green spaces, making it a nice pit stop on a summer ride. |
| ### Activities Throughout the Year What I love about Mill Pond is that it changes with the seasons, and each one offers its own charm: - Spring & Summer: The park is alive with color. Ducks and geese make the pond their playground, and the flowerbeds brighten up the paths. Families bring picnics, kids run around on the open grass, and music often drifts through the air—especially during the popular Concerts in the Park series on summer evenings. - Fall: The pond mirrors the fiery reds and golden yellows of autumn leaves. It’s a photographer’s dream and a walker’s paradise. Just strolling along the boardwalk with a coffee in hand feels magical. - Winter: Once the pond freezes, it transforms into an outdoor skating rink. Generations of Richmond Hill residents have laced up their skates here, gliding under the crisp winter sky. Add in the twinkle of holiday lights and you have one of the coziest scenes you can imagine. |
| ### A Bit of History Mill Pond isn’t just pretty—it carries a slice of Richmond Hill’s history. The pond was originally created in the 19th century to power a sawmill, which played a role in the early development of the area. Over time, as industry faded, the pond and its surrounding lands were preserved and turned into the park we enjoy today. It’s nice to think that something once tied to hard work and industry is now a place of leisure and relaxation. |
| ### Looking Ahead Richmond Hill has been working on maintaining and enhancing the park for future generations. There have been ecological restoration efforts—improving water quality, protecting wildlife habitats, and upgrading the walking trails. Community input is often part of the process, so the park continues to serve as both a natural escape and a community gathering space. While there aren’t plans for massive new developments that would change its character, ongoing improvements ensure Mill Pond will stay beautiful and accessible for years to come. |
| ### Final Thoughts For me, Mill Pond Park is more than just another green space—it’s a little oasis right in the middle of Richmond Hill. Whether you want to sit quietly by the water, enjoy a lively summer concert, or skate in winter, the park always has something to offer. If you’re ever nearby, it’s worth a visit—you might find, like I did, that it becomes one of those special places you carry with you. |

| When most people think of ping pong, they imagine fast rallies, Olympic matches, or a fun game in the basement. But in recent years, medical experts have been shining a spotlight on table tennis for a completely different reason—it may be one of the most effective, enjoyable, and surprisingly simple activities to improve seniors’ health and well-being. |
English |
|---|---|
長者不需要像馬龍或波爾那樣激烈對戰,也能獲得益處: | Unlike high-impact sports, ping pong is easy on the joints, requires minimal space, and can be played at any pace. Seniors don’t need to move like Ma Long or Timo Boll to enjoy the benefits. Just the simple act of standing, hitting the ball, and moving side-to-side brings a host of advantages: |
Doctors and neuroscientists have begun to study ping pong not just as recreation, but as therapy. According to research: |
| Brain health: Ping pong activates multiple parts of the brain simultaneously—motor control, planning, strategy, and focus. This helps delay cognitive decline. |
| Dementia therapy: A study in Japan showed seniors with mild dementia who played table tennis regularly had improved memory, attention span, and mood. |
| Balance and fall prevention: Specialists point out that ping pong’s quick lateral movements improve stability, reducing the risk of falls—a major concern for seniors. |
| Vision and reflexes: Tracking the small white ball sharpens visual perception and reflex speed. |

| Japan: Nursing homes incorporate “table tennis therapy” sessions for dementia patients, with positive results in memory recall and emotional well-being. |
| Germany: Rehabilitation centers use ping pong to help stroke patients regain coordination and motor skills. |
| United States: The non-profit PingPongParkinson promotes table tennis for Parkinson’s patients, showing reduced tremors and improved mobility. |
| China: Senior activity centers widely use ping pong as part of healthy aging programs, given its cultural popularity. |
Suggested Image: 🖼️ A dementia care facility in Japan or a Parkinson’s support group playing ping pong.
| 1. Start slow: Just hit the ball back and forth—no competition needed. |
| 2. Play doubles: Less movement per person, more laughter, more connection. |
| 3. Use modified equipment: Larger paddles, slower balls, or robot trainers can help beginners. |
| 4. Join a senior ping pong club: Many community centers now run groups specifically for older adults. |
Suggested Image: 🖼️ A local ping pong club with elderly doubles teams laughing and enjoying the game.
| Ping pong is more than a sport; it’s therapy disguised as fun. Seniors who may shy away from exercise machines or long walks often light up when they pick up a paddle. Unlike solitary workouts, ping pong connects people, sparks joy, and gives both the body and brain a refreshing workout. |
| As societies grapple with aging populations, we may see more hospitals, nursing homes, and community centers adopting ping pong as part of senior care. After all, if a simple game can help fight dementia, prevent falls, and bring a smile to aging faces—why not? |
Suggested Image: 🖼️ Seniors laughing while playing ping pong, with a nurse or family cheering them on.
| 👉 Final thought: The next time you see a ping pong table, don’t just think of it as a game. Think of it as medicine—with laughter as the prescription.
材质:纯木(手感柔和、摩擦时间长);
手柄类型:FL(横拍柄)、ST(直柄)、AN(人体工学柄)——以舒适为主。
Stiga Allround Classic + Yasaka Mark V |
Timo Boll ALC + Tenergy 05 |
DHS Hurricane 301 + Hurricane 3 Neo FH |
DHS W968 + Hurricane 3 FH + Dignics 05 BH |
Joo SaeHyuk Blade + Feint Long II |
底板:DHS W968(狂飙龙5 国家队版 内置芳碳)
Dignics 05
Super ZLC
Tenergy 80
Timo Boll ALC
正手:蝴蝶 Dignics 09C(微粘、旋转强)
Dignics 05
