A Friendly Reminder - Update Re Oak Ridges Community Centre Open House

Hello everyone!

Summer has finally arrived! A little late, but better than not at all!  J

September has also arrived and because we have had all summer to plan, we are offering an amazing fall program for you.

Whether you are interested in arts (painting, cooking), crafts (knitting, kilim weaving and card making), fitness classes  (for all levels of fitness and abilities) and hiking, cards and games (euchre, bid euchre, social bridge and Chinese Mahjongg),  computers, and even music! Learn to play the Ukulele!
Special events, workshops and out trips are all being offered this fall and your can find out all about them in the Adults 55+ newsletter and/or RH Leisure Guide.

I have attached the Adults 55+ calendar and Drop in schedule for your convenience.  Please come in and pick up the September newsletter as the file is too big to attach or download.  The monthly newsletter will keep you updated and informed of all the Adults 55+ programs offered by the Town of Richmond Hill.

Join us for an exciting day at the Open House for the  McConaghy Centre on Friday September 12th from 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.. Visit the Centre and sample the variety of Adults 55+ programs we offer. Enjoy program demonstrations, a performance from the McConaghy Choir, door prizes and refreshments. A barbecue lunch will be available for purchase. Bring a friend and come enjoy the day!

Langstaff Community Centre will also be hosting an Open House on Tuesday September 16th from 10:00 a.m.- 12 noon.  Take part in a Zumba Gold, Tai Chi or Yoga mini-class. Try some table tennis. Join us for a tour and find out the activities available to you at Langstaff Community Centre. Bring a friend and enjoy the morning!
Complimentary light refreshments will be served.

And finally, please consider attending our ORCC  Lunch and Learn series that we are offering this fall/winter beginning in October.  We have asked a number of wonderful and very interesting people who are willing to share their travel experiences and/or  creative talents with us in a relaxed setting complemented with a delicious  lunch.  The first of the series will be a Travelogue of Syria facilitated by Phyllis Vernon, who describes herself as an artist, rider and traveler.  She is also a retired  teacher /librarian.
Phyllis will take us on a trip through Syria, a place that today’s tragic situation makes unavailable to us as travelers for many years.  She and her husband spent 10 days in Syria in September 2010 , and she will show slides and describe their 10 days there exploring the history and culture with a Syrian driver and guide.  Many of the slides  she will show us have now probably been destroyed during the violence of the civil war, and she continues to wonder about the situation of the people they met.

Join us on October 15th from 12:30 – 2:30 p.m.  Fee: $10  Course code: 480916

A Fresh, Welcoming Space The newly renovated entrance is wider and brighter , creating a welcoming first impression. Inside, the assembly hall now feels more open and spacious , making it an ideal venue for community gatherings. The improved layout allowed everyone to move around comfortably, mingle freely, and truly enjoy the event. A Table Full of Flavours We had about 60 participants , and everyone brought along a favourite dish—some lovingly home‑made , others thoughtfully picked up from local restaurants .
