Richmond Hill council eliminates waste bin exchange fee

Residents looking to exchange damaged or broken Richmond Hill labeled blue boxes and/or green bins can once again do so for free.

Council has eliminated the $8.45 exchange fee that was initially introduced in August 2020 to help offset replacement costs. This change is effective retroactive to June 22, 2021.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, waste bin sales/exchanges were paused from Jan. 13 to June 21, 2021.

Refunds

Residents who paid to exchange a damaged Richmond Hill labeled blue box and/or green bin between June 22 and Sept. 22, 2021, will be issued a refund.

How to get a refund

• Residents who paid to exchange their damaged bin online will have the fee automatically refunded to their credit card within two months.
